French Open: Alcaraz and Sinner to Meet in Epic 2025 Final Clash

Carlos Alcaraz is one win away from securing his second straight French Open title, but world No. 1 Jannik Sinner is in his way, ready to win his first Roland Garros title. The French Open 2025 odds expect a tight battle between these two youngsters, so tennis fans should watch the final with great interest.

After surviving three consecutive four-setters, Alcaraz finally had an easier path towards the final. The Spaniard defeated Tommy Paul in straight sets and got a bit lucky against Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals.

In contrast, Jannik Sinner had been dominant throughout this tournament, as he has yet to drop a set thus far. After eliminating Andrey Rublev in the fourth round, the Italian went on to dispatch Alexander Bublik and Novak Djokovic in the subsequent rounds.

Let us pick up where we left off at Roland Garros, as SBOTOP serves you the latest French Open 2025 updates.

Alcaraz gets lucky break in the semifinals

Carlos Alcaraz secured a 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, 2-0 walkover victory over Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals last Friday, as the Italian waved the white flag after two hours and 25 minutes. At 0-5 in the third set, Musetti called for a medical timeout to get his left leg treated. However, after careful consideration, Musetti retired because he visibly limping.

Before the injury, many believed that Musetti would push Alcaraz to the limit since the Italian boasted a stunning record of 19 victories in 23 clay-court matches this year. Musetti became the fifth player to reach the semifinals of all clay ATP Masters 1000 events and Roland Garros in the same year, after Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Alexander Zverev. He had surged into an early lead, suggesting the potential for an upset, though Alcaraz pushed back in the second and third sets before Musetti eventually retired.

With his latest victory, Alcaraz improves to 33-2 on clay since last May. The Spaniard aims to extend his perfect 4-0 record in Grand Slam finals. He is the fifth-youngest player to reach five Grand Slam finals in the Open Era and the third active male player to achieve the impressive feat after Novak Djokovic (37) and Daniil Medvedev (6).

Jannik Sinner celebrates clinching his place in the French Open final after defeating Novak Djokovic

Jannik Sinner is through to his first Roland Garros final after notching a 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(3) victory over Novak Djokovic last Friday. The Italian looked like a man on a mission, as he overwhelmed and outclassed his Serbian counterpart.

In his first tour-level meeting with Djokovic on clay since 2021, Sinner dominated the early baseline exchanges and dropped just three points on serve in the first set. He earned the first break of serve in the match in the fifth game and, although Djokovic later avoided dropping serve again by saving two break points at 2-4, the 38-year-old couldn’t build momentum in return games.

Djokovic tried to bounce back in the second set and won in a thrilling 26-shot rally during the second game. The Serbian had gone 45 consecutive return games without breaking against Sinner until the Italian served for the second set at 5-4. However, even if Djokovic broke his drought, Sinner won two straight games to take the second set.

Djokovic needed a medical timeout before the third set to receive treatment, and the 24-time Grand Slam winner looked rejuvenated after that. But after he let slip his three set points at 4-5, Sinner took advantage and closed the match out with a superb tie-break showing.

Sinner became the second Italian man to reach the French Open final in the Open Era after Adriano Panatta, the 1976 champion. His upcoming final against Carlos Alcaraz will be the first men’s singles final between players born in the 2000s. Alcaraz has a 7-4 edge in his overall head-to-heads with Sinner.

Djokovic’s Roland Garros future is uncertain

Djokovic’s recent loss against Sinner had the Serbian realizing that retirement may be on the horizon, as he admitted he may have played his last match at Roland Garros last Friday.

“This could have been the last match, ever, I played here. That’s why I was a bit more emotional in the end. But if this was the farewell match of the Roland Garros for me and my career, it was a wonderful one in terms of the atmosphere and what I got from the crowd,” Djokovic said. Djokovic has cemented himself as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, earning 24 Grand Slams across his career Last year, he earned his first Olympic gold in the 2024 Olympics, completing the career Golden Slam.
