Mercedes are planning to secure another double-podium outing to narrow the gap between them and frontrunners McLaren in the constructors’ standings. As of this writing, the Papayas have accumulated 374 points after the first 10 races of the 2025 campaign, which is 175 points ahead of the second-seeded Silver Arrows. Ferrari and Red Bull are right behind them at 183 and 162 points, respectively.
George Russell notched his first win of the season during the Canadian Grand Prix, with teammate Kimi Antonelli finishing third. Russell heads to the Austrian Grand Prix with a ton of confidence, especially since he knows what it takes to win on this track.
Meanwhile, Williams recently confirmed that team principal James Vowles is extending his stay with the team, and everyone from the Grove-based outfit is satisfied with the news.

Russell aiming for rare repeat
After an underwhelming run of form in the past few weeks, George Russell broke his duck with a timely win in the Canadian Grand Prix. The British international had a straightforward weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, taking pole position in the qualifying and breezing past the competition in the actual race. With a seemingly favorable weather forecast this weekend, Russell will fancy his chances.
Russell may not publicly admit it, but he’s auditioning for a new contract extension with the Silver Arrows. His current contract runs until the end of this season, and winning more races should help him make a strong case in the negotiations.
“It’s not something that I’m pressing massively because, as I’ve always said, the performance is the priority, and I feel with the performance I’m showing at the moment – still in line with the performance I’ve shown over all these years – I’ve got zero reasons to be worried. But obviously it does help if there was pen on paper,” Russell said.
On the other hand, teammate Kimi Antonelli should have a clear mind heading into the Red Bull Ring this weekend, as the 18-year-old just finished his exams days after notching his first Formula 1 podium at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Williams make huge Vowles announcement

James Vowles has signed a new long-term deal to continue as Williams’ team principal, which is a huge vote of confidence from the team, according to Alex Albon. Vowles joined the Grove-based outfit before the 2023 season from Mercedes, and since then, Williams have made huge strides under his leadership.
So far in 2025, Williams have enjoyed their strongest start to a season since 2016, with Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz Jr. regularly challenging for points to help the team rise to fifth in the constructors’ championship with 55 points – more than what they scored in the previous three seasons combined.
History
The Austrian Grand Prix is one of the oldest staples in the Formula 1 calendar. It was first held in 1964, then from 1970 to 1987, and from 1997 to 2003, before it was retained for good in 2014. It is typically held during the midseason rounds of the Formula 1 calendar, except in 2020, as it was the season opener due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Max Verstappen is the winningest driver at Red Bull Ring with four wins in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2023. The Dutchman has been the polesitter in the last four editions of this race. However, George Russell won it last year by taking advantage of the late collision between Verstappen and Lando Norris for his second career race victory. Charles Leclerc also won here in 2022.
What are the odds?
Despite coming up short of a podium finish last week for the first time this season, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri is backed as the odds-on favorite to win at Red Bull Ring. The Austrian Grand Prix 2025 odds have Piastri at 2.50 odds, whereas teammate Lando Norris and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen are both pegged at 3.00.
A second straight double-podium finish is a long shot for the Silver Arrows because George Russell is priced at 7.00 and teammate Kimi Antonelli is at 21.00. Mercedes are also pegged at 7.00 as the winning team behind McLaren (1.40) and Red Bull (3.00).
As for Williams, Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz Jr. are expected to finish within the points, though they are long shots to win the race at 251.00 odds. Williams have the fifth-best odds of being the best team at Red Bull Ring at 126.00.
