Serie A: These Stars are Ready to Shine in 2025

The 2025/26 Serie A fixtures are out already and the Italian top flight sides are beginning to take shape in preparation for the next rush for the Scudetto.

The SBOTOP Serie A 2025 betting odds can hardly spilt the last two winners, Inter Milan and Napoli, though Juventus, AC Milan and Atalanta will all have plenty to say over the next 11 months when we expect to see some of the best football on the planet, and a title race every bit as exciting as the last one, when I Partenopei picked up the title on the every last day.

The champions have already made a marquee signing in Belgian midfield maestro Kevin de Bruyne and there is bound to plenty of activity in the market as summer progresses. And there will be some stars who had a quieter than hoped for campaign last year and will be determined to make their fair share of Serie A 2025 highlights this time around.

So let’s take a look at four players in that position, a prominent squad player, an injured star and two youngsters who can make a difference to Napoli’s main challengers.

Kristjan Asslani at Inter Milan

Albanian star Asllani joined Inter on loan in 2022 after making his name at Empoli, and he’s played 45 games for I Nerazzurri since signing permanently a year later, following the departure of central midfielder Marcelo Brozovic to the Saudi Pro League. A clever player with excellent technical skills and a combative nature Asllani, now 23 years of age would be a starter on most top flight teams in Europe but he’s had to fight for appearances in Milan.

A Scudetto winner with Inter the £30m valued player is reported to be keen to stay at the club to impose himself; but a host of teams have been tracking his progress, including Premier League side West Ham United. But, with a change at the helm of Inter Milan following Simone Inzaghi’s switch to Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League and the arrival of Cristian Chivu in the hot seat, it may well be that Asllani is in the new man’s plans.

Juan Cabal at Juventus

Colombian left back Juan Cabal signed for I Bianconeri last summer and there were high hopes he would quickly become a key man for Juventus. But after he had played seven games Cabal suffered an ACL injury to his left knee in November and that saw him sidelined for the rest of the campaign. He made his name as a centre back after signing for Hellas Verona in 2022, but the following season he was moved to left back in a four man defence.

A strong and physical presence the Old Lady will hope her Colombian defender can recover to be the same player he was before his injury and, if so, he can be a dominant player in the Juve defence.

Mattia Liberali at AC Milan

18 year old attacking midfielder Liberali impressed in pre-season with I Rossoneri after he joined the first team squad for the 2024/25 campaign. He can play either through the middle or as a winger and has been compared in style to Manchester City and England star Phil Foden. During that pre-season he made a brilliant assist in a 1-0 win over Real Madrid and he made his professional debut for Milan Futuro in August and then, in December he started a Serie A match, a 0-0 draw at home to Genoa, on the day of the club’s 125th anniversary.

As a youngster Liberali began as a central defender but his ball playing skills and trickery made him an ideal candidate to play in a creative unit and this season I expect him to kick on. But it may not be in Milan where he has 12 months left on his contract, and he’s another player with plenty of clubs circling.

Marco Palestra at Atalanta

Another young star who is ready to play a bigger part is Atalanta’s 20 year old right back Palestra, an Inter Milan junior player who finished his academy work in Bergamo. He is an adaptable player, originally a centre midfielder who moved out onto the wing and then to full back. So his creative grounding makes Palestra the ideal attacking wingback. He made his senior Atalanta debut in December 2023 in a Europa League win over Rakow Czestochowa and he has made nine full appearances for the first team over the past 15 months. An Italy U21 star, Palestra is a high pedigree and is ready to make his mark over the coming campaign.
