Serie A: Napoli take Another Big Step Towards the Scudetto

Napoli maintained a three-point lead at the top of the Serie A table this weekend thanks to a hard earned 1-0 win away to Lecce, while Inter Milan stayed in touch with a same score victory at home to Hellas Verona.

After winning their first Scudetto in over 30 years, just two years ago in 2023, I Partenopei fell apart last season and finished in tenth, so this is quite a comeback under Antonio Conte. With just three games to play the Serie A 2025 betting odds here at SBOTOP have taken a sharp swing towards the Amalfi Coast, and Napoli fans are dreaming of a second success in three campaigns.

Conte is a proven winner, with five Scudetto medals as a Juventus player and; as a head coach he has picked up top flight league wins in Italy, with Juve and latterly with Inter Milan, and in England with Chelsea. He’s a master tactician and a veteran of the 1-0 win and Giacomo Raspadori’s superbly executed free-kick on 24 minutes was enough to take all three points away from a hostile Lecce stadium. The hosts were fighting for their Serie A survival and they battled hard in front of a feverish 28,000 crowd, restricting the league leaders to just eight shots and two on target, but they were unable to break through a brilliantly disciplined Napoli rearguard.

Conte’s men need just seven points from their final three games against Genoa, Parma and Cagliari, in 13th, 16th and 14th. It looks like a gentle run in against three sides which will more than likely have nothing to play for, while second placed Inter Milan have a tougher looking sequence of games, as well as a Champions League semi-final to contest with. A Kristjan Asllani penalty gave I Nerazzurri their nervy 1-0 home win over Verona though head coach Simone Inzaghi rotated his squad with a second leg Champions League clash with Barcelona looming. Then they realistically need to win league games against 11th placed Torino, tenth placed Como, who are on a run of five consecutive wins, and Champions League chasing Lazio.

It looks much tougher for Inter and I can’t see Napoli’s Serie A 2025 results falling off a cliff on Conte’s watch.

Atalanta and Lazio keep up the pace

Serie A: Charles De Ketelaere scored twice in Atalanta's 0–4-win vs Monza
Atalanta’s Charles De Ketelaere scored twice against Monza

The race for the Champions League places continues to set a furious pace as both Atalanta and Lazio picked up crucial victories on Sunday to keep their Champions League hopes alive. La Dea moved up to 68 points in third place, six behind Inter Milan and five ahead of Lazio after they plundered a 4-0 victory away to bottom club Monza, simultaneously confirming their hosts’ relegation to Serie B. Attacking midfielder Charles de Ketelaere has been without a league goal in 2025 but he put that right in his first start in over a month, grabbing a quick brace to set Atalanta on their way. His first was a clever finish at the near post after collecting a cut back from Mateo Retegui, and his second came with the help of some disastrous Monza defending. Top scorer Retegui turned provider again when his through ball, aiming for Ademola Lookman, fell to Ketelaere after two defenders failed to clear and he calmly slid the ball home from 12 yards. Lookman picked up Atalanta’s third goal when he benefited from a flick on by Retegui and it should have been 4-0 but Ederson missed a gaping goal with his header from six yards.

But La Dea did get their fourth with two minutes remaining when Marco Brescianini finished at the second attempt, after more chaotic Monza defending.

Down in Tuscany Lazio escaped with a crucial three points after a hot tempered affair ended in a 1-0 win for the Romans. Boulaye Dia’s goal in just 54 seconds did the damage to an Empoli side in the thick of a relegation battle. Both sides ended up with ten men after Lorenzo Colombo was sent off for the hosts when he collected his second yellow card, but Lazio’s Elseid Hysaj joined him for an early exit when he picked up two rapid-fire yellows of his own. And the home fans were up in arms when they were denied an equaliser by VAR after Mattia Viti had the ball in the net. After a lengthy review the Empoli star was adjudged to be inches offside and that did little to improve the mood in Tuscany…though Lazio won’t mind one bit as they moved up to fourth place in the table.

The race for the Champions League slots continues on Sunday night when Bologna host Juventus and Roma take on Fiorentina, with these four clubs in fifth to eighth and looking to make their move.
