Bundesliga: Can Eintracht Outgun Rampant Bayern?

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Bayern Munich

Two of the highest scoring teams in the Bundesliga come face-to-face in Frankfurt on Saturday evening when Eintracht welcome Bayern Munich in a top-flight blockbuster.

Fourth and first in the league table, but separated by six points, Dino Toppmoller’s Eintracht and Vincent Kompany’s Bayern are the great entertainers, and we’re expecting a ding-dong battle as the Eagles aim to become the first team to take points from the 2025 champions this season.

After back-to-back defeats, Frankfurt got back to winning ways last week, while Bayern made it five league wins from five. But these two clubs had starkly different evenings in Champions League football this week. While Bayern were hammering Pafos 5-1, Eintracht lost by the same margin to a ruthless Atletico Madrid.

There’s another huge game in the Bundesliga this weekend, as Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig meet at the Signal Iduna Park. Those two teams sit in second and third and are ready to pounce, should the Eagles do them and themselves a favour.

Talking Points

Goal-happy Eagles are gunning for Bayern

Football is a game of attack and defence, but I make no apology for majoring on goal getters today, because the Bundesliga 2025 highlights are packed with net busters from Eintracht and Bayern. After losing away to a resurgent Bayer Leverkusen and then being edged out in a seven-goal thriller against Union Berlin, the Eagles fought back to beat Borussia Monchengladbach 6-4, and they also slapped Galatasaray 5-1 in the Champions League, sandwiched between the two losses.

Eintracht have scored 17 goals in five league games, bettered only by Bayern Munich, recovering admirably from the loss of top strikers Omar Marmoush to Manchester City and Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool. Toppmoller’s men stormed into a five-goal lead against the Foals by halftime last week, and 19-year-old Turkish striker Can Uzun is the latest hitman to roll off the Frankfurt production line, scoring five league goals so far, and one in each game this season.

And new signing Jonathan Burkhardt has scored two in four following his transfer from Mainz. The Germany international looks capable of leading the line successfully in Frankfurt, and with another summer signing Ritsu Doan and Uzun feeding off him, the Eagles have an exciting three-pronged attack.

Kane is still the King

Harry Kane has reached 100 goals for Bayern in 104 matches and leads the Bundesliga scorers with ten this term
Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane celebrates after scoring from the penalty spot in the Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen

While Eintracht have an impressive front line, there is little doubt who is the top dog in German football, with Harry Kane going from strength to strength. Now 32 years of age, the England captain has scored 74 international goals in 109 games with the Three Lions, and he is scoring virtually a goal a game for Bayern since his arrival in 2023.

Kane has scored 10 of Bayern’s 22 league goals, leading the race for the Golden Boot by five, with Uzun in second place. He scored two first-half goals against Pafos on Tuesday to add to the brace he bagged in a 4-0 win over Werder Bremen last week. Those two against the Cypriots made it 100 for Kane from 104 appearances for Bayern in all competitions, breaking the previous European record jointly held by Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland, who took 105 games each.

While Kane appears to be able to beat all comers, this is a multi-faceted attack with Serge Gnabry, Michael Olise, and this year’s summer signing, Luis Diaz, all scoring three Bundesliga goals so far. They are a terrifying prospect for any defence, and that is one of the big reasons, if not the biggest, why the Bundesliga 2025 betting odds strongly back the Bavarians to retain their title.

History

Bayern have enjoyed this fixture over the years, winning 29 of the last 42 meetings with Eintracht, while the Eagles have seven wins and there have been six draws.

Last season, this fixture ended in a 3-3 draw, as Marmoush had a brace and Ekitike scored for Frankfurt, with Kim Min-Jae, Dayot Upamecano, and Michael Olise answering for the Bavarians.

Bayern then went on to beat Eintracht 4-0 when the two teams met in Munich, with Olise and Gnabry on target, as they marched to the title, while the Eagles finished impressively in third.

In terms of recent form, the Bavarians have been relentless with six wins from six, scoring 24 goals and conceding five, while Frankfurt have won three and lost three, scoring 19 goals and conceding 18.

Betting Tip

Eintracht are at 6.00 to win this clash, with the draw at 5.00 and Bayern red-hot favourites at SBOTOP odds of 1.37 to make it six wins from six. One thing we can guarantee is goals, but I’m sticking my neck out here, and I’m backing the hosts, roared on by a passionate crowd, to stop the Bayern bandwagon.
