Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich won the 2024/25 Bundesliga title this weekend after Bayer Leverkusen fell short away to SC Freiburg on Sunday.
Bayern fought back from a two goal half time deficit to earn a 3-3 draw in Leipzig on Saturday and Kompany was proud of the way his team fought back from 2-0 down but he must have been a little frustrated that the club’s title celebrations were delayed by a 94th minute leveller from veteran striker Yussuf Poulsen.
The Bavarians had a torrid time in the early exchanges and they fell behind to a Benjamin Sesko goal with just 11 minutes on the clock. Red Bull wingback Lukas Klostermann doubled the hosts’ lead late in the first half and with star striker Harry Kane sidelined with injury it looked a long way back for Kompany’s men. But two goals in as many minutes courtesy of Eric Dier and Michael Olise levelled matters on the hour and then Leroy Sane’s 83rd minute strike started the celebrations in the away end at the Red Bull Arena.
But Die Roten Bullen weren’t done, and when Poulsen raced on to a Xavi Simons through ball he smashed his angled shot high into the net to grab a point which may be crucial for Leipzig come the end of the season.
The title has been slipping from Bayer Leverkusen’s grip for some time and the Bundesliga 2025 betting odds on a successful defence have been lengthening week by week as time ran out for the 2024 champions. And the race was finally run in Freiburg as Die Werkself were held to a 2-2 draw.
SC Freiburg are chasing a Champions League place and they took the game to the reigning champions, bossing the first half and restricting Die Werkself entirely, as the visitors failed to register a single shot in the opening 45 minutes. Vincenzo Griffo stung the palms of young Bayer keeper Matej Kovar early on and the Czech stopper had to be alert to keep out an advancing Patrick Osterhage. But there was nothing he could do when Max Eggestein unleashed a fierce shot from 25 yards which took a slight deflection, before flying into the top left corner to lift the roof off the Europa-Park Stadion.
Leverkusen needed a quick start in the second half but they had anything but, and they fell 2-0 behind when Piero Hincapie put through his own net. Florian Wirtz halved the deficit with ten minutes remaining to give the visitors a faint hope, and when Jonathan Tah diverted in a Nathan Tella cross for a leveller the stadium fell silent… but Bayer must now hand the title over to Bayern, while Freiburg moved up to fourth.
Rampant BVB on the charge

It’s been a tough old campaign for Borussia Dortmund fans, watching Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen battle it out for the title while Die Schwarzgelben’s lack of consistency left them on the fringe of the race for European places. But a good run of Bundesliga 2025 results, five wins in six, has hauled Niko Kovac’s team into Champions League contention, up to fifth in the Bundesliga table at the close of business on Sunday. And the way BVB dismantled Wolfsburg in a 4-0 win on Saturday gave a serious wake-up call to Dortmund’s top four rivals. Serhou Guirassy and Karim Adeyemi scored a brace each at the Signal Iduna Stadium, Guirassy opening the scoring on just three minutes. And when the Guinean striker finished off a superb passing move on the hour he moved on to 19 goals, joint second in the top scoring charts, behind only Kane.
Adeyemi climbed off the bench to score two classy individual goals to spark wild celebrations in the Yellow Wall. Dortmund fans have had to be patient this term but the SBOTOP odds make it a three way race for the coveted fourth place between Freiburg, BVB and Red Bull; and while Freiburg are in pole position, a point ahead, it is Kovac’s side which goes into the final two games with the momentum.
Holstein Kiel still fighting
At the bottom end of the league table 17th placed Holstein Kiel kept their survival hopes alive with a stunning 3-1 win away to FC Augsburg. Swedish striker Alexander Bernhardsson put in a man-of-the-match performance, winning a penalty and scoring a brace as the underdogs raced into a 3-0 lead. Shuto Machino converted the 25th minute spot-kick and then Bernhardsson doubled the lead with a well taken header just before the break.
The in-form Swede scored his second and Kiel’s third just after the break and that took the game away from Augsburg, who snatched an injury time consolation through Steve Mounie. Augsburg’s fading European hopes have disappeared, but Holstein Kiel are still battling, now a single point behind FC Heidenheim who occupy the play-off place.
