Wimbledon: Sinner Gets His Redemption Against Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz missed out on a rare Wimbledon hat-trick, as he lost 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to Jannik Sinner in the final last Sunday. The victory was sweet for Sinner, who wanted revenge against Alcaraz after losing to him in the French Open final last month.

Tennis fans at Centre Court were treated to numerous Wimbledon 2025 highlights by Sinner and Alcaraz. And because both of them are still young, many believe that they could form the next big rivalry in the men’s division in the years to come, especially since they occupy the Top 2 spots in the ATP rankings.

Elsewhere, Grigor Dimitrov shared a message to his fans following his Round of 16 exit against Sinner. The 34-year-old bowed out of the Grand Slam after sustaining an upper-body injury during the third set.

Sinner achieves history by winning Wimbledon

After losing to Carlos Alcaraz during the French Open final, Jannik Sinner was not to be denied this time in Wimbledon. The Italian international came out with purpose and precision, as he fired one groundstroke after another, and his serve grew stronger as the match went on.

Sinner dropped the first set, as Alcaraz spammed the drop shot to rally from 2-4 early on, and his Spanish counterpart won it with a backhand block after an intense baseline exchange. However, he responded by breaking Alcaraz at the beginning of the second set and was the more consistent player during the baseline exchanges, recording five fewer unforced errors (8 to 13). After levelling the match with a forehand winner, the reigning Australian Open champion turned up the aggression in the succeeding sets.

He was aggressive on the Alcaraz serve in the third set, constantly pressuring the Spaniard. Alcaraz fended off two break points in the opening game but was unable to stop Sinner in the ninth game. Sinner then held serve to claim the third set and won 88-per cent of points on his first serve during the fourth to win his 20th tour-level trophy and become the first Italian man to win SW19.

“It’s mostly emotional, because I had a very tough loss in Paris,” Sinner said post-match. “I am just so grateful that I am healthy and have great people around me, and holding this trophy means a lot.”

Alcaraz is not too sad after losing to Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are the only French Open final opponents to meet again in the same season’s Wimbledon final (in the Open Era) besides Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who did it three straight times from 2006 to 2008. These two youngsters have split the past seven majors. Both players are now only one major title from completing the Career Grand Slam, with Sinner only missing a Roland Garros trophy and Alcaraz missing an Australian Open title.

Alcaraz was chasing his sixth major and trying to become the second man, alongside Bjorn Borg, to win back-to-back French Open and Wimbledon crowns in consecutive years. He will leave London with his head up high after improving to a 48-6 on the season following the defeat against Sinner.

“At the beginning of the season, I struggled a bit on the court and off the court, but then suddenly I just started to really enjoy being on court again, being happy again, and that excitement I have every time step on the court is thanks to my team, my family and lot of friends. I am happy that I have them here,” Alcaraz said.

Dimitrov posts new injury update

Grigor Dimitrov’s 2025 Wimbledon campaign came to a screeching halt after he suffered a pectoral muscle injury during his Round of 16 contest against Jannik Sinner. The Bulgarian was on his way to upsetting the SBOTOP Wimbledon 2025 odds after taking the first two sets, but he had to wave the white flag after a lengthy medical timeout at 2-2 in the third set.

“Sometimes the heart wants to keep going… but the universe has a different plan for us,” Dimitrov posted on Instagram. “Having to withdraw from this match at Wimbledon was one of the most painful moments of my career.”

“Thank you for the overwhelming wave of love — from family, friends, fans, colleagues, to the entire tennis community… your messages have genuinely lifted me through these hard times. Thank you all. Truly. Recovery starts now. I’ll see you all soon. G,” he concluded.

Dimitrov has now retired due to injury from the past four Grand Slams, including at January’s Australian Open (groin) and in May’s French Open (leg).
