Serie A: The Fixtures Throw Up an Early Juventus vs Inter Clash!

The 2025/26 Serie A fixtures are out; and fans the length and breadth of Italy will be scanning the sports pages to see who their team meets first, when the new Scudetto chase begins on the 23rd August.

The Serie A 2025 betting odds make this a four to six horse race; with the two Milan teams, champions Napoli and Juventus as the favourites to win Champions League places, while Roma and Atalanta are also in the hunt. Lazio and Fiorentina may find the top four a step too far but they, along with Bologna, will be looking for European places in one competition or another.

Serie A: Napoli welcomed Kevin De Bruyne this summer
Kevin De Bruyne applauds the fans after playing his final game for Manchester City in May 2025

Reported here at SBOTOP, Kevin De Bruyne’s arrival at Napoli was the big Serie A 2025 news as the summer transfer window opened, while Inter Milan start life without Simone Inzaghi after their head coach of the last four seasons headed off to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.  Meanwhile, Juventus have been busy in the transfer market and Argentine star Nicolas Gonzalez was the Old Lady’s sixth summer capture, in a deal which could reach 33m Euros following the winger’s full time switch from Fiorentina.

And that brings together Inter Milan and Juventus for the first blockbuster fixture of the campaign when they meet on Matchday Three. The Derby D’Italia is one of the most watched domestic fixtures in the European calendar with fans of I Bianconeri and I Nerazzurri spreading far and wide beyond Turin and Milan. Captained by Manuel Locatelli and Lautaro Martinez, Juve and Inter will clash in Turin on August 24th. This will be the 268th clash between these famous clubs who have endured one of the most intense rivalries in football, mainly since the 1950s. The relationship reached its lowest ebb in 2006 when, following the Calciopoli scandal which saw Juventus stripped of the Scudetto… which was promptly handed to Inter Milan.

In February Juventus won this fixture 1-0 with a goal from Francisco Conceicao which denied I Nerazzurri a chance to go top of the table and Napoli took advantage to eventually win the Scudetto.

Following the departure of Inzaghi, Cristian Chivu was appointed head coach at Inter and he has a rebuilding job to do, certainly in terms of confidence after Inter followed up their Serie A disappointment with a 5-0 humbling at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. Juventus had a strong finish to the campaign, thanks to the goals of loanee Randal Kolo Muani, and the Old Lady has recruited aggressively in an attempt to go a step further next season.

New boys Pisa start in Atalanta

After a 34 year absence from the top flight Pisa have been promoted to Serie A and they kick off with a mouth-watering clash away to Atalanta. La Dea have been European regulars in recent seasons and have been one of the best attacking sides in European football over the past decade, so this is a real test for the new boys. Sassuolo won Serie B to make a speedy return to the top flight and they will start with arguably an even tougher assignment, at home to champions Napoli on the opening day. Cremonese are the third team to be promoted, seeing off Spezia in a play-off, but it was a nervy affair as they held on for a 3-2 win after going three goals to the good. The Lombardy based team returns to the top flight after a two year absence and is rewarded by a trip to face AC Milan at the San Siro Stadium.

It really couldn’t get much harder for the three new boys!

In the other eye-catching Round One clashes Juventus host Parma, who narrowly avoided relegation last term, and Inter Milan host Torino who had a mid table finish. Week two sees Napoli host Cagliari and Inter welcome Udinese, while Juventus takes the trip to Genoa and AC Milan are away at Lecce.

And then on Matchday Three it all kicks off!

13th September is the date of the Derby D’Italia and it will be lucky for someone, though I suspect neither Juventus nor Inter Milan team would be too disappointed with a draw. And there are two more mouth-watering games to look forward to that weekend, as Napoli visit Florence to take on La Viola, a team with high ambition and plenty of quality. Then Sunday 14th sees I Rossoneri host Bologna, the team which beat them in the Coppa Italia final in May and were the surprise package of 2023/24, finishing fifth in Serie A.
