Serie A: Enthralling Top 4 Battle Between Lazio and Juve

Lazio vs Juventus

The Serie A championship battle between Napoli and Inter Milan is not the only thing we should monitor, as the fight for the two other Champions League spots remains up for grabs. Atalanta look safe in third place with 68 points and are in good form, while Juventus are the fourth seed.

Juventus are in a three-way tie with AS Roma and Lazio with 63 points each, and time is running out for these three teams with only three matchdays remaining. Juventus will visit Lazio at Stadio Olimpico this Saturday, while AS Roma take on Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium on Monday.

Depending on this week’s Serie A 2025 results, a new team could occupy the fourth spot. Today, SBOTOP will cover the match between Lazio and Juventus. Lazio are coming off a 1-0 win against Empoli, while Juventus are fresh from a 1-1 draw against Bologna.

Talking Points

Lazio don’t have enough full-backs

Head coach Marco Baroni may have to be creative with his starting XI this weekend, as Juventus-owned Luca Pellegrini is their only natural full-back available. Adam Marusic, Manuel Lazzari, and Nuno Tavares are all questionable to play due to injuries, while Elseid Hysaj must serve his suspension.

Hysaj assisted Boulaye Dia’s first-minute goal against Empoli, which was enough to get three points. However, he received his marching orders in the 76th minute for accumulating two yellow cards.

If Marusic, Lazzari, and Tavares don’t recover in time, Mario Gila might be the team’s starting right-back with Pellegrini at left-back. Alessio Romagnoli and Samuel Gigot will likely man the centre half, covering goalkeeper Christos Mandas. Mandas seized the starting goalkeeper role from Ivan Provedel after their 2-2 draw against Napoli last February.

Nicolo Rovella – another player on loan from Juventus – will start alongside Matteo Guendouzi in a double pivot setup. Boulaye Dia, Taty Castellanos, Mattia Zaccagni, and Gustav Isaksen should lead their frontline.

Pedro could be the x-factor for Lazio. The 37-year-old winger has fully embraced his off-the-bench role and has scored eight league goals this season. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Tijjani Noslin, Matias Vecino, and Loum Tchaouna provide additional depth for the Biancocelesti.

Juventus to miss key players

Juventus must beat Lazio to keep their top four spot in the Serie A table this 2024-25 season
Juventus manager Igor Tudor gestures from the sideline during their Serie A match against Lecce

Juventus head coach Igor Tudor has his lineup dilemmas, as Federico Gatti, Lloyd Kelly, and Andrea Cambiaso are the newest additions to the team’s injury list. The Bianconeri must also do without Kenan Yildiz, who will serve his second game of a two-match ban for being sent off against Monza, and Teun Koopmeiners, who is still struggling with an Achilles injury.

Dusan Vlahovic was not in the matchday squad in the Old Lady’s 1-1 draw against Bologna, but he should be ready to go against the Biancocelesti. Despite being the team’s top scorer with nine league goals and four assists, Vlahovic will likely start the game on the bench in favour of Randal Kolo Muani, who has six league goals since arriving in January.

Juventus are under enormous pressure to secure Champions League football for next season, since failing to do so would put them in a difficult financial situation.

History

Juventus notched a 1-0 win over Lazio at the Allianz Stadium last October, thanks to an own goal by Lazio’s Mario Gila in the 85th minute. Lazio were reduced to 10 men early when Alessio Romagnoli took out Dusan Vlahovic during the 24th minute.

The Bianconeri have the most Serie A wins against the Biancocelesti (W87, D38, L36). However, Lazio have won two consecutive Serie A home games against Juventus for the first time since 2001 and could win three straight for the first time since 1956.

The Biancocelesti have drawn their last five Serie A matches at Stadio Olimpico and could draw for the sixth consecutive time on home soil for the first time since 1991.

Betting Tip

The Serie A 2025 odds expect another tight contest between Lazio and Juventus. Because they’re playing at home, Lazio have a slight edge at 2.36, whereas Juventus aren’t far behind at 2.83, and a draw is at 3.09 in the 1X2 market.

This is an incredibly tough game to choose the winner, but based on their recent encounters, football fans might be in for a low-scoring affair. Besides our recommended bet, bettors can also go for Under 2.25 at 1.91, Under 2.50 at 1.72, and Total Goal 0-1 at 2.68. Moreover, a Correct Score of 1-0 in favour of Juventus – the result of the reverse fixture – could yield a solid payday of 7.70 your bet.
