So Liverpool are the 2025 Premier League champions and the relegation battle is done. The race is still on for European places and the FA Cup finalists have been confirmed, with Manchester City and Crystal Palace set to meet at Wembley in May.
But we’re nearly there folks, and the summer recess is in sight, so maybe this is a good time to pick out the players who have caught our eye this season, the goal-scorers, the goal-stoppers, the leaders and the flair players. Here are the SBOTOP picks of the ten players who have made the most Premier League 2025 highlights and lifted their clubs to new heights.
Mo Salah – Liverpool
Where else can we start but with the man who has fired Liverpool to a 20th top flight title, the first of Arne Slot’s reign and the Egyptian’s second? With 28 goals and 18 assists Salah has stormed the race for the Golden Boot and has made way more assists than anyone else, Jacob Murphy registering 11 for Newcastle United. For a forward who operates often on the wing this is an incredible return and Liverpool fans are delighted that their Mo has just signed an extended contract.
Virgil van Dijk – Liverpool
Ever-present and never subbed this season, the Liverpool captain is arguably even more influential than the Egyptian King. The Premier League 2025 betting odds have been backing the Reds from the mid-point of the campaign and Van Dijk’s composure and dominance in Liverpool’s rearguard has been a huge factor. He makes Liverpool tick and with 2,660 completed passes, the most in the league, van Dijk rarely wastes an opportunity.
Alexander Isak – Newcastle
We always knew that Isak was a quality striker but this has been a real break-out campaign for the Swedish hit man who has scored 22 goals to sit second in the race for the Golden Boot. His power, pace and clinical finishing make him the perfect Number Nine, and that could ultimately bring him legendary status at St James’ Park.
Chris Wood – Nottingham Forest
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland is third in the scorers’ charts but my next pick is Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood who has 19 goals. An old-fashioned striker who hit double figures in four consecutive Premier League campaigns for Burnley, and his 19 goals this season has really shone a light on his undoubted talent. He has scored seven with his head and Wood is a nightmare to defend against.
Matz Sels – Nottingham Forest

I’m picking three Forest players in my ten as Nuno’s team has surpassed all expectations this term. And in a league which has stratospheric goal-keeping talents such as Alisson, Ederson, Emiliano Martinez and Nick Pope, to lead the race for the Golden Glove is a real feat, and that’s where Matz Sels is with 13 clean sheets. A brave shot-stopper who commands his area, Sels is the perfect keeper to give his defence confidence.
Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United
This has been a poor season for Manchester United, and the Red Devils have been carried for much of it by their captain, Fernandes, who is the top scorer with eight goals and has provided the most assists with nine. In a team of underperformers Bruno has led the team admirably, and his 2515 touches make him one of the busiest players in the league, while his 27 through balls completed is the most of any player.
Idrissa Gueye – Everton
Since the arrival of David Moyes at Goodison Park, the Toffees have climbed away from danger and have survived with plenty to spare. They have become very difficult to beat and have a well organised defence; and Everton have one of the best defensive midfielders sat in front of the back four in the shape of the 35-year-old Gueye. The Senegalese star has made more successful tackles than anyone, with 123, and his calm assurance is a real asset to Moyes.
William Saliba
I’m going to conclude with three more defenders, the first of which is Arsenal’s French centre-back William Saliba. With 2712 touches and 2,400 completed passes he is hot on the heels of Van Dijk as a leader in defence and he is a threat in the opposition penalty area. The Gunners have plenty of flair players but they are equally impressive in defence, where Saliba has the star quality.
Antonee Robinson – Fulham
With 10 assists, third in the list alongside Mikel Damsgaard and Bukayo Saka, Fulham’s flying winger Robinson is one of the best providers in the business. The Cottagers faced relegated Southampton at the weekend and got their Europe-chasing campaign back on track with a 2-1 win. The American was sidelined for that game but Fulham are hopeful he will be back for the run-in. Liverpool are monitoring the player so it could be an interesting summer for Robinson.
Murillo – Nottingham Forest
One of Forest’s most exciting players is central defender Murillo whose driving runs from deep have been a feature of his team’s success. He loves to support the attack but the Brazilian is a rock in defence, making 213 clearances and three off the line, as well as making 43 critical blocks. What a player!
